Along with an altitude the forest was getting thinner and finally gave way to shrubs and grasses. Soon we reached Pakabon - a single pasture hut standing on a shallow, grassy valley. After crossing the glacier supplied by avalanches falling from the Western Face of Dhaulagiri, we climbed a steep moraine, where we pitched another camp. The place, located at about 3800 metres above sea level was perfectly suitable for acclimatization and therefore we decided to stay there for two consecutive nights. Mayangdi Valley is few hundred metres wide here and creates a gigantic gorge dominated by the virtually inaccessible West Face of Dhaulagiri. |
