POLAND
Poland is my motherland and Warsaw used to be my home town before I moved to Hong Kong in 1998. Most of the pictures presented here were taken during my 2005 trip and some in 1997 before my departure.
Poland is one of the most interesting countries in Europe. Mountains, forests, sandy beaches, culture and more than thousand years of history - Poland got them all and is growing more and more popular as a holiday destination. With a collapse of communism, Poland has opened up to travelers, revealing a rich cultural heritage and unspoiled natural beauty. It can satisfy the need both of the tourist who wants to spend there a long holiday and the traveler who is looking for interesting places to spend one or more weekends. I hope my pictures will encourage at least some people to include Poland in their holidays plans. Trust me. You won't be dissapointed.
WARSAW
Warsaw is a capital city of Poland and most of the peple flying to Poland start their Polish trip here. It was completely destroyed during the WWII but was subsequently restored to its former beauty. The Old Town is everybody's favourite, but do not forget to visit Wilanow, Lazienki Park, the New Town and Krakowskie Przedmiescie/Nowy Swiat streets.
OLD TOWN
Warsaw's Old Town is one of the most beautiful places in Warsaw. Its romantic streets and corners encourage not only visitors but also the city dwellers themselves to stroll around the place where the history of the city began. The Old Town dates back to the turn of the 14th century, but during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising 90% of it was destroyed. The brightly painted town houses enclosed by a band of red-b rick walls, slender church towers and the squat Royal Castle are all a result of post-war reconstruction. In 1980 the Old City was listed by UNESCO as an example of perfect reconstruction work making use of what had survived from the original buildings.

The Market Square ha s been the focus of life in the city for centuries. It was lined with imposing houses of the richest burghers, such as Fukiers', Basilisk and St. Anne's. Today, the square is an eventful place, where music is often played and artists sell their paintings. |
