At the elevation of 3830 metres, Puno is the largest town at the edge of Lake Titicaca. It is usually used as a starting point for trips to the lake and Bolivia.

Indians Aymara are the majority of the population inhabiting Puno and surrounding areas.	Lake Titicaca is the highest sailing lake in the world with regular connections between Puno and Bolivia.
