Colca Canyon

One of the world's deepest canyon, Colca provides the most interesting side trips from Arequipa. Due to the distance to cover and high altitude it should be however undertaken and a two day-tour and many day-trippers died in accidents caused by tired drivers. Most of the people stay overnight in Chivay, which also gives an opportunity to interact with local people and culture. It should be noted that the raging river Colca was first negotiated by Polish canoeists. It has been recently proved by National Geographic expedition that sources of Amazon River are located in the area.
