Transandean Railway and Central Codillera

Transandean Railway connecting Lima and La Oroya was built by Polish engineer Ernest Malinowski. The 287 km long railway crosses the Central Cordillera through La Gallera tunnel at 4781 m. One link goes to Anticona Pass which is the highest railway pont in the world at 4818 m. The railway traverses 6 tunnels, 59 bridges and 22 zigzags. It still belongs to one of the most impressive achievements of engineering of all times.
