ROTORUA

Rotorua is like tourist capital of North Island as most of the visitors come here to see its thermal activity areas with geysers, boiling water ponds and mud ponds. It also gives a good opportunity to get acquainted with Maori culture.

Te Whakarewarewa is Rotorua's largest and best-known thermal reserve. Its main attraction is POHUTU geyser (below) which usually erupts at least once an hour, spurting hot water about 20 m into the air.
