TREKKING TO THE KHUMBU REGION
This is classic and one of the most interesting and unfortunately one of the most crowded trekkings in the Himalayas. It gives an opportunity to sea the highest mountains in the world (Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Makalu) and provides good introduction to life of famous Sherpa people. The whole trekking - if flown in to Lukla and walked back to Jiri as I did - including visiting Chukhung and Gokyo valleys and Cho La crossing takes about 4 weeks. I highly recommend the very rarely nowadays visited part between Jiri and Lukla (most of the trekkers fly in and out) with excellent accommodation, beautiful views and interesting culture. However, it requires extra 7 to 8 days of walking and good fitness as there are many quite demanding ups and downs.

A side trip to Kungde and Khumjung apart from acclimatization reasons provides stunning views of Ama Dablam, Tamserku and Kangtega. Khumuing has some excellent lodges and apparently the highest bakery in the world not surprisingly named after the highest mountain on Earth. |

Another side trip to a pleasant village of Thame takes about 6 hours return and gives an opportunity to visit an interesting gompa. |
