DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL 2003
CHEUNG CHAU Dragon Boat Festival (or Tuen Ng festival) celebrates ancient hero Qu Yuan, who committed suicide by throwing himself into a river in protest at government corruption. He was so adored that the townspeople raced to the scene in rowing boats, but could not save him. They then beat drums to scare away fish and threw dumplings into the water to prevent them eating his body.
