Manimati was a center of the Buddhist culture that thrived here from 6th to 13th century. The main temple - the Salban Vihara was a large monastery with 115 cells for the monks.

The Cemetery is beautifully maintained and contain graves of British, African, Indian, Irish, Australian Japanese troops. We also find a grave of the Polish soldier who died in bombed hospital (left picture with a candle).
